The wait is now over, as the University Civic Engagement Club (UCEC) committee announced on November 19, 2022, that 15 pledges have been chosen for Pledge Campaign, giving participants the ability to put their aspirations into sustainable action. Out of the pledges submitted, 15 pledges were based on three main pillars of sustainability (environmental, social and economic), which were deemed eligible in the UCEC Pledge Campaign – pledging to advocate for environmental and health and wellness care. In a nutshell, this will pave the way for them to be a determined leader in creating a positive environment in their campus communities.
Introducing to our pledge teams from the UCEC Pledge Campaign lineup:
- Waste No More (Resource Management Campaign)
A pledge to raise awareness and participation in the proper management of resources such as water, electricity, and food
- IIUM Recycling Initiative
A pledge to increase participation of students in recycling through access to the recyclables collection points on campus
- Pick Up & Throw It (Waste Social Media Campaign)
A pledge to educate people to practise proper waste management and reduce littering
- Let’s Keep The River Clean (River Cleanup)
A pledge that focuses on ensuring the river is being properly managed as well as raising awareness among the society in IIUM on river
- Printar Campaign (Smart Printing Campaign)
A pledge to increase the awareness and participation of students in reducing the rate of paper used for printing
- IIUM Sustainability Website
A pledge that focuses on creating a communication platform that shares information about IIUM sustainability efforts that are coordinated from top to the bottom. As a result, cooperation is being promoted among peers and staff who are mobilizing towards the same sustainability goals
- One People One Tree (Tree-planting Project)
A pledge to encourage students’ participation in a tree-planting effort
- Good Society IIUM Food Garden
A pledge to introduce a green education through the establishment of a conducive space
for education and skill-building (ethical gardening skills, business skills) hub for students in agriculture
- NoBazeer Campaign (Virtual Food Waste Awareness Campaign)
A pledge to raise awareness, educate and encourage the university community to reduce food wastage
- Say No To Plastic Online Campaign
A pledge to reduce the plastic usage among the IIUM community
- Self-Talk and Self Space: Self Injury Prevention Awareness Advocacy
A pledge to advocate for healthy and productive support for the adolescents in curbing mental health issues, particularly on the targeted behaviour
- LESSGO! (Stress Management Project)
A pledge to create a healthier mindset among students in proper management of the study, work, and stress
- Work Life Imbalance Awareness Campaign
A pledge to raise awareness among future generations about the importance of balancing work and life, as well as prioritising self-love
- Stay Longer, Live Healthier (Healthy Living Project)
A pledge to encourage students, staff and all IIUM community to live a healthier life by reducing the excessive amounts of sugar in their daily intake and doing more physical activities
- Edu(Care)tion (Peer Support Project)
A pledge to assist students to cope with the stress and problems in their online learning platforms
The UCEC organising committee wishes to congratulate all pledge teams!
The pledges are chosen based on a few criteria, including project description and goals, method of implementation, timeline, creative ability and logicalness, all of which are appraised by the committee itself, which is overseen by Ms. Nabila Shohimi, UCEC’s Project Manager.
Following this, a seed fund was granted to approximately 20 pledge teams from both partners, IIUM and USIM, as well as a series of training sessions, mentorship, networking and certification.
